Question: One Monumental Book or Many Lesser Books?

questionJeannie Lin posed an interesting question over at Romance Divas: Which would you prefer -- publishing one monumental book (like To Kill a Mockingbird) or publishing many lesser books (like one book a year or whatever)?

I wouldn't want the former unless the sole book I published was so significant that it won the Nobel Prize in Literature. Nothing else could make the first scenario appetizing enough.

How about you?

Multiple lesser books. I doubt Harper Lee would make a living in the current economic climate. At least with multiple books I stand more of a shot. Besides...I'd get BORED if I only wrote one book!

I rather have a classic throughout the ages, than many forgotten books throughout my life time.

Kait -- the question isn't necessarily about writing but publishing. I wouldn't want to publish just one book that unless I get the Nobel Prize for it.

Renmiu -- Does commercial appeal count when you think about having just one classic?
