Bilingual former management consultant Nadia Lee has lived in four different countries and enjoyed many adventures and excellent food around the globe. In the last eight years, she has kissed stingrays, been bitten by a shark, ridden an elephant and petted tigers.

She shares an apartment overlooking a river and palm trees in Japan with her husband, baby boy, winter white hamsters and an ever-widening pile of books. When she's not writing, she can be found digging through old Asian historical texts or planning another trip.

Trivia

  • Nadia fed a bunch of stingrays in a sandbar in the Caribbean. They were really quite cute, so she gave one a kiss. Her friend took a picture of that. Mmmm...guess she can never run for a political office with that incriminating photo floating around somewhere...
  • Nadia swam with "sweet" and "gentle" sharks. So of course, she got bitten. No kiss for the sharks!
  • Nadia spent over $2,000 on her violin, but didn't play it for over four years. When she opened the case, her bow hair was ruined from the lack of use and nasty bugs. Thankfully they didn't eat the violin itself.
  • Nadia received a B.S. in Commerce with concentrations in finance and management information systems with a minor in economics from the University of Virginia. Her crit partner Jennifer Shirk was right when she said, "Romantic-at-hearts indeed come in all shapes, sizes, and mind-numbing educations."
  • While working, Nadia flew over 5,000 miles per week, and at one point, her permanent address was a Hilton in California.
  • Nadia has lived in four different countries and speaks 2.5 languages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Did you always want to be a writer?

No. When I was growing up, I wanted to be a pianist, a lawyer, or a plastic surgeon. I still don't know how I ended up becoming a consultant for three years, and now a writer.

Where do you get your ideas?

Costco, of course. All self-respecting authors go there and buy 'em in bulk. It's cheaper that way although I heard Red Envelope sometimes has funky ideas.

Okay, honestly I don't know. Sometimes it's something I saw or read or heard. Sometimes it's just something I dreamed. But stay tuned. I'll be sure to write an article worthy of this meaty question when I figure it out.

How long does it take you to write a book?

It depends. A book takes as long as it takes.

How does your family feel about your writing career?

My parents are resigned to the notion that I'll never get an MBA and become a managing director at Goldman Sachs. My brother thinks it's awesome I'm doing what I want to do.
