My Books Are on Amazon Kindle Germany!

When I saw the announcement that Amazon is opening Kindle store in Germany, I never thought my books would be available on Amazon DE as well. But then a few people said, “Hey, our books are showing up!” so I hopped on over to look myself up.

Nadia on Amazon DE

All four of my books are on Amazon DE! W00t! I signed up for their author central program, so my information, etc. is there (though in English…I have no idea how to speak or write German).

So cool. I love it that people can buy ebooks easily in countries served by Amazon DE.

Pulling My Titles from Kobo Books

I really didn't want to do this, but I no longer have any choice.

I distribute some of my self-published titles to Diesel, Kobo, Sony and Apple via Smashwords. It came to my attention last week that Kobo discounted books uploaded by Smashwords. I thought maybe it was a one time glitch or something, but it looks like it is not. Furthermore this random and unauthorized discount has a huge financial impact on writers.

Mark Coker responded to the situation:

April 12, 2011 – Bugs of a different variety. Kobo has experienced a glitch that in the last two days that has caused an automatic repricing of some number of Smashwords titles. We don't know how many are affected yet, but I've personally confirmed about 20 books affected in the last two days. I have noticed an initial pattern that in some cases, the prices reverted back to a previous list price, so it might only be affecting authors who raised their prices after first landing at Kobo. Kobo is aware of the problem, and they've escalated it to the highest priority. If you discover your books are affected, click the comments/questions link and send us a direct hyperlink to your book at Kobo, along with a notation of the proper price, and we'll forward the information to Kobo in case they're not aware of it already. Whatever you do, DO NOT opt out. I expect this to be resolved shortly because Kobo doesn't want this error taking place any more than we do.

Here's the thing — I don't trust that Kobo's glitch was a two-day problem because I know it's been going on longer than that. I'm not confident that Kobo can fix it anytime soon. Given that this can impact my pricing at other vendors, including Amazon and Nook, I'm pulling all my titles from Kobo.

In addition, Mark Coker's comments on Kindleboards give me no confidence that Smashwords or Kobo is going to take responsibility for what went wrong, as they seem too busy blaming Amazon for daring to price match. :?

I'm sorry if you happen to like shopping at Kobo. But all my books are priced below $4.00, and I cannot afford to have Kobo's “glitch” mess things up for me at other vendors, especially given that my sales numbers from Kobo are so much smaller than what I get elsewhere (such as Kindle, Nook and Sony).

So here are the updated vendor links for all my titles:

Now You Can Sample DESTINY ENTWINED on Nook

DESTINY ENTWINED by Nadia LeeI'm not sure how many of you saw Dear Author's post from yesterday regarding B&N PubIt stripping samples from erotic romances (the post also featured two of my books: erotic romance Destiny Entwined and contemporary romance Carnal Secrets). It appears as though PubIt started not allowing anybody to download samples of eroticas or erotic romances of indie authors, which resulted in a big loss of sales and so on for many indie authors.

Destiny Entwined was never allowed for sampling since it went on sale on February 14, and I just assumed that it was due to its length; it's a short story. Mind you, Amazon Kindle has always allowed people to sample stories regardless of length or genre. But I honestly had no reason to suspect that how I categorized Destiny Entwined had anything to do with Nook users' inability to read samples until I read DA's post.

Between the time DA's post went live and a few hours ago, PubIt allowed people to sample Destiny Entwined for the first time ever. I haven't changed anything on PubIt. The story still has the exact same description and genre category as before. So I have no idea what happened on PubIt's end. Maybe a little public pressure…?

Anyway, if you're a Nook owner, I hope you download the sample and hopefully enjoy it enough to buy a copy. :) If erotic shorts aren't your cup of tea, I also have a paranormal romance novella, A Happily Ever After of Her Own, and the aforementioned Carnal Secrets on sale as well.

And should any work of mine not have a sample on a particular bookseller's website, you can always come here. I have links to excerpts of all my stories on the Bookshelf page.

Lovely March!

First, I want to thank all of you who made the soft launch of Carnal Secrets such a success. I hadn't expected it to do as well as it did in February, given that I only announced the release on my personal social media sites. So thank you, thank you, thank you!

Second, thank you so much for making the launch of Magic and Mayhem Writers so fun and rewarding! You guys are awesome.

It's getting warmer in Japan, though figuring out what to wear every day can be a bit tricky. Sometimes it's warm, and sometimes it's very cold. But soon cherry blossoms will bloom, and it's going to be gorgeous!

Hero Material and I learned that our first baby is going to be a boy. We're thrilled. Yes, we're still debating the name. Maybe we should give the Boy multiple names to appease both of us. But then he might get upset when he has to learn how to spell all of them. Dilemma, dilemma!

This month, I'm doing five guest-blog posts relating to Carnal Secrets with some lovely and uber-talented ladies I was fortunate enough to meet via Twitter. (Social media rocks!) Each topic touches upon a step of my self-publication journey with Carnal Secrets.

  • March 8: Read the Fine Print, hosted by Zoe Winters — The Importance of reading contracts carefully and why I ended up declining a publisher's offer to publish Carnal Secrets.
  • March 9: Walking Away Can Be Hard, hosted by Kait Nolan — The emotional impact walking away can have on writers.
  • March 10: Small Press v. Self-Publication, hosted by Love Romance Passion — The advantages and disadvantages of having a publisher versus doing it all on your own.
  • March 14: Distribution, DRM and Geo Restrictions, hosted by Pearl's World of Romance — The thorny problem called distribution and how to reach as many readers as possible, no matter where they live!
  • March 15: Creating a Cover Art with Non-White Characters, hosted by Monkey Bear Reviews — The nervousness I felt at creating a cover with non-white characters, given the controversies over white-washed covers, etc.

I hope you stop by. :)

Finally — I'm making some changes to Facebook. I had a personal profile there, and due to some situations (involving minors in my extended family, etc.), I've decided to create a page instead to communicate with my readers and writing friends. It has photos, events, discussion boards, and many more.

So, please “like” my profile by going to the new page.

Also I've created a Facebook profile page for each of my books, again with events, discussion boards, etc. They're really for you to use in any way you see fit, and I'll stop by to answer any questions if any and post news updates, etc. You can “like” them by going to the following pages:

Hope you have a wonderful March. Talk to you soon!

DESTINY ENTWINED by Nadia Lee

When her lover Theseus deserts her on an island, Princess Ariadne of Crete wishes to forget her betrayal-filled past. Dionysus answers her prayers, seducing her with his godly wiles and delivering mind-shattering ecstasy. However, when he reveals that she's his bride as foretold in a prophecy, she has to take a leap of faith, once more leaving her heart vulnerable to another, or live out the rest of her life on the island alone.

Length: Short Story

Black Sun Reviews called it “…the perfect bite-sized erotic romance…”

Some Like It Hot also gave it an excellent review: “…an erotic undertaking that revels in the lush setting of the Greek gods…”

Excerpt

Make me forget.

The pounding of the waves arching and crashing into the beach was her only answer. Ariadne clutched the tunic tighter around herself as the howling wind pushed her toward the sea. Perhaps the engulfing water would erase the memories of her foolishness.

I want to forget.

“Do you? Truly?”

She swiveled her head and turned toward the voice, which was as dulcet as honeyed nectar. The sapphire linen, damp and clinging, tangled around her ankles, robbing her of balance, but all her senses focused on the stranger.

Hair the color of the richest loam whipped in wild abandon around his perfectly chiseled face. The heat from his body beckoned her, and she gripped his arms, felt the corded strength of lean muscles. Despite the wind heavy with brine, he smelled like woods and vines, with a sweet tang of ripe grapes before harvest. Finally she registered a powerful hand supporting her back, preventing her from collapsing into the water and sand in an undignified heap.

He smiled, just a slight curve of his full lips. They looked so soft in such an unyielding face. “I can bring an end to care and worry. Make you forget.” The corners of his eyes crinkled, a wicked temptation dancing in their depths. “Isn't that what you long for?”

The power radiating from him said he could give her what she'd been praying for. Ariadne swallowed, trying to keep a ready word of assent from rising. Who was this man anyway?

Dionysus.

The name brushed over her mind, settled like a silken sheet. His mouth traced her jaw, then stopped near her ear. “Say yes, Adriane, and I'll free you from all your burdens.”

Memories rolled like a series of murals. Only her intercession had enabled the hero Theseus to kill the Minotaur and find his way back from the depths of the labyrinth. Yet after achieving his victory he'd tossed her aside on this uninhabited isle like a sack of provisions gone bad. His betrayal had killed their love, but it hadn't been able to obliterate her guilt. She too had committed a betrayal; the stony face of her father as he'd gazed upon his slain pet, then banished her from Crete sliced her anew, made her bleed.

“Yes,” she whispered finally. A punishing wave rushed onto the beach, slapped her on her calves before dissolving into icy foam. She gasped. “Make me forget.”

Dionysus's arms tightened around her, his gaze cold on the ocean. “I will, love. I will.”

He carried her away from the reach of the sea, holding her tenderly as though she were a delicate flower rather than a fully grown woman. A golden chariot drawn by four enormous leopards stood on a large slab of granite several feet away. Dionysus set her inside, her heart pounding, and signaled the beasts.

They pulled the cart toward the forest, sand puffing under their mighty paws. Dionysus leaned back and toyed with her hair and shoulders, touching her with a silent assurance of sensual pleasures to come. Blood rushed through Ariadne, and she felt warm and light despite her fear. A mortal lover had thought her lacking and turned his back on her. Could she satisfy a god? What if she couldn't be what he desired?

“Don't be afraid,” Dionysus murmured against her bare shoulder, making her quiver, making her aware of the surroundings whipping past them as his mighty leopards surged into the forest. “I won't make you do anything you don't want.”

She believed him. Despite his reputation for licentious madness, there was a core of honesty and clarity in him that said he was in complete control.

And even if she were to repeat the mistake of misjudging another, what would it matter? She'd at least experience the heights of ecstasy, and who would that hurt? Dionysus had a habit of destroying kingdoms on a whim, but what realm could suffer when she was no longer a princess, exiled and abandoned on this deserted island?

You can buy your very own copy from All Romance EBooks, Amazon Kindle US, Amazon Kindle UK, B&N Nook or Smashwords.
